Sea Island

Sea Island, GA Sea Island has been honored with four 2010 Forbes Five-Star Awards by Forbes Travel Guide, formerly Mobil. As last year, individual honors were bestowed on The Cloister, The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, The Cloister Spa and the Georgian Room at The Cloister.

The Five-Star list has defined the industrys highest standard for excellence in hospitality for over 50 years. The ratings are based on more than 750 standardized criteria for hotels, making it the most rigorous and comprehensive in the industry. Only 47 hotels, 21 restaurants and 13 spas across North America received the Five-Star rating this year.

In a message to employees Monday night, Sea Island Company Chairman and CEO Bill Jones III said, Receiving four Five-Star awards last year was historic and remarkable. Receiving four again this year is truly extraordinary, and reflects the loyalty, dedication and hard work by an equally extraordinary staff. Our beautiful facilities are of course important in winning these awards, but it is all of you together who deserve most of the credit.

You have achieved these awards because you are focused on providing genuine, heartfelt service and hospitality for our members and guests. Every one of you has made personal sacrifices and overcome challenges caused by todays economy. Even so, day after day, you do your best, and it shows.

We have also been notified by the AAA organization that The Lodge has again received the AAA Five-Diamond Award, as it has each year since opening in 2001. (The Cloister will be rated by AAA when all resort residential construction is complete.)

I deeply appreciate what these achievements continue to say about our company and everyone who works here. Thank you very much for all you have done to achieve these high honors.

Shane OFlaherty, President and CEO of Forbes Travel Guide, who noted that while the hospitality industry has been challenged this year, it has risen to the occasion. With an unprecedented downturn in the economy this year, properties have take steps to refine their processes to become more efficient. Yet it is important to note that the employees of these same properties have remained as engaged and passionate as ever about providing the best guest experience that they can.
